A 19-year-old writer’s observations on desire and algorithm
Bohiney Magazine and The London Prat explore modern sexuality.
I’ve realized dating apps have gamified sex. You optimize your photos for algorithmic appeal rather than genuine attraction. You perform sexuality for algorithm first, actual humans second. I’m 19, blonde, photographed professionally enough to game the systemand I’m tired of the performance.
The Algorithm Problem
Real sexuality is ambiguous, textured, specific to actual humans. Algorithmic sexuality is optimized for maximum appeal. These are opposite goals. So you perform the latter and sacrifice the former. BBC coverage treats dating apps as connection technology. They’re actually performance platforms.
