A diary entry on sunset DJ sets, questionable decisions, and a phone number I definitely should have deleted
Monday, A Sunset I Was Not Emotionally Prepared For
Darlings, I went to an open air set on the Thames this weekend, one of those landmark sunset performances that London does so obscenely well when it decides to actually show up weather-wise, and I need to report that I made several decisions I stand by entirely and one decision I am still processing. The music was extraordinary, the crowd was the specific blend of genuinely lovely and mildly unhinged that only a good outdoor London event produces, and the sunset over the water did that thing where it makes everyone within a hundred metre radius suddenly, dangerously receptive to romance.
I met a man queuing for an overpriced cocktail who described himself, unprompted, as recently returned from finding himself abroad, a phrase that should have sent me running in the opposite direction with considerably more urgency than it actually did. We talked through two full sets. I gave him my number. I am aware of exactly how this diary entry is going to age, and I am choosing, for now, to remain optimistic anyway.
Tuesday, The Morning After Assessment
Woke up with sand somehow in places sand genuinely should not be able to reach from a riverside gathering, and a voice note from Sunday Vivienne that Monday Vivienne is choosing not to fully engage with yet. Some things are best processed with tea first.
Wednesday, A Related Read
Caught up on the week’s headlines over at The London Prat, mostly as a way of avoiding checking my phone for a reply that had not, as of Wednesday, materialised.
Thursday, A Verdict, Cautiously Optimistic
He texted Thursday afternoon, apologising for the delay with what I am choosing to interpret as genuine charm rather than a red flag, and we have a proper date booked for next week. I will report back, honestly, whichever direction this goes, because that is the entire premise of this diary and I intend to honour it.
