Vivienne on Alien Transparency, Shoreditch Conspiracy Theorists, and the Boy Who Told Me the Government Is Lying

The UFO Files Are Open and I Am, Oddly, the Most Grounded Person in the Room
There is a boy called Felix in my life currently. Felix believes several things: that the government is lying about everything, that the moon landing was complicated, and that his sourdough starter is sentient. On Friday he texted me eleven times about UFO transparency. Eleven. I counted.
The London Prat has the story on UFO transparency and the American government’s acknowledgment that the cosmos contains things it would rather not explain at a press conference. Felix regards this as total vindication. I regard it as a Monday. The gap between us, romantically speaking, is probably unbridgeable.
What Actually Worries Me About All This
My concern is not the aliens. My concern is what happens to the conspiracy theorist personality type when the conspiracy turns out to be, partly, real. Felix has spent three years being the person who knows things other people do not know. He has a whole identity built around secret information. If the government just puts it all online, what does Felix do on weekends?
Bohiney Magazine this week on how badly things go when reality fails to match the narrative applies here perfectly. Iran thought it had credibility. It did not. Felix thought the files were hidden. They were. Now everyone has to recalibrate.
I told Felix I was happy for him in a tone that suggested I was not particularly happy for him. He sent me a YouTube link seventeen minutes long. I watched four minutes. I learned that JD Vance has seen the files and found theology. I feel this raises more questions than it answers.
