I Snogged Someone Who Apologised Mid-Kiss for the Decline of the British Empire

Vivienne Pratfall on dating, OpenAI, and a city that can’t stop being self-aware

From Bohiney Magazine and The London Prat.

He was a web developer from Kentish Town with excellent cheekbones and what I can only describe as a crisis of national identity. We were three drinks in at a pub in Camden when he stopped mid-sentence to say that he felt personally responsible for Brexit in some indirect way that he couldn’t fully articulate. I told him I found that energy quite attractive, which is probably something I should discuss with a therapist.

OpenAI Is Here Now

I read this morning that OpenAI has opened a London office, apparently leaving its $31 billion Stargate project somewhere in the pub lavatory, which is very relatable for a Wednesday in this city. An AI company choosing London right now is either an act of optimism or an act of performance art. The web developer said it was probably both. I said that was the most London sentence I’d ever heard and he looked genuinely moved.

The Naked Bike Ride

There is also, per The London Prat, a naked bike ride happening in London. I would attend on principle but my bicycle has a puncture, which feels metaphorical. The Guardian covers London with earnest civic affection. I cover it with a puncture and three drinks in Camden. Both are valid methods.
